MIKENO LODGE

Located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Virunga National Park is Africa’s oldest national park and is famous for its volcanic peaks and mountain gorillas. Visitors typically fly into Kigali International Airport in Rwanda and drive three to four hours to cross the border at Goma, where park transport picks them up.

For the luxury tier, is set within a lush forest at the Rumangabo park headquarters, an hour drive north of Goma. The top attractions here include mountain gorilla trekking, visiting the Senkwekwe Center which is the only facility for orphaned mountain gorillas in the world, and bird watching in the surrounding mahogany forest.

The generous stone bungalows offer eighty square meters of space with large lava-stone fireplaces and private decks. Standard rates sit around four hundred and fifty dollars per person per night on a full board basis. Moving to the mid range tier.
