About the Lodge
Tchegera Tented Lodge is located on the crescent-shaped Tchegera Island in Lake Kivu and known as a unique eco-lodge in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It is found in Virunga National Park offering guests an extraordinary combination of volcanic landscapes, crystal-clear waters, abundant birdlife, and panoramic views of Africa's most iconic volcanoes.
Tchegera Tented Camp is situated on Tchegera Island, a horseshoe-shaped island formed from the rim of an ancient collapsed volcanic crater. The camp is managed as part of Virunga National Park's sustainable tourism program, which aims to protect biodiversity while creating economic opportunities for local communities. The lodge's secluded setting allows visitors to disconnect from busy urban life and immerse themselves in one of Central Africa's most spectacular natural environments.
The camp lies on the northern section of Lake Kivu, just off the coast of Goma in eastern DRC. Guests reach the island by scheduled boat transfers from Bolengo Dock in Goma, with the journey taking only a short time across the lake. The island offers magnificent views of Mount Nyiragongo, Mount Nyamuragira, Mount Mikeno, Mount Karisimbi, The turquoise waters of Lake Kivu.
On clear evenings, visitors can even witness the glowing lava of Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira illuminating the night sky, creating one of Africa's most dramatic natural spectacles.
