5 Days primate safari in Rwanda

The safari starts and ends in Kigali city of Rwanda, it includes a gorilla permit worth 1500 per person per day. You will enjoy gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park, chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest national Park, canopy walk as well as a nature walk. There are also many bird species that are found in these two forest s of Nyungwe and Volcanoes National Park.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali Airport

Upon your arrival at the airport and our company representative welcomes you to Rwanda. This city is so clean and its people are so hospitable and friendly. You are taken to your accommodation for an overnight and dinner.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest national Park

Have breakfast at the lodge and after drive to Nyungwe national Park, the journey is as charming as you view the amazing sceneries all around the area. You have lots of stopover at Butare national museum, Nyanza as well a Malaba coffee factory. Arrive late in the evening and then check into your lodge.

Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest Lodge (luxury)/ Nyungwe Top View Hotel (mid-range)/Gisakura Guest House (Budget)

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking & a canopy walk

Wake up to a cup of coffee and then proceed to Nyungwe Forest to track the chimpanzees guided by the rangers. These rangers are so aware of the best places where to easily track the chimps. As you hike through the verdant forest, you are to find variety of primate species like monkeys as well as birds. You get to observe chimpanzees as they play, feed and rest. You are allowed to take many pictures after you head back to the lodge for lunch and then proceed for a canopy walk where you view many other animal species including the birds.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast at the lodge and head to volcanoes National Park, the drive gives a great view of Lake Kivu for the best photos. Have lunch on the way as you continue with the drive. Upon your arrival, check in to the lodge and rest for the evening.

Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)/ Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Moderate)/ Muhabura Hotel (Budget)

Day 5: Gorilla trekking & transfer to Kigali

Have breakfast at the lodge and then proceed to the park head quarters for briefing about the dos and donts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda. By 8:30 am , hike into the forest in search for the allocated gorilla family with which you are to spend 1 hour and then get back to the starting point. The trekking time varies from 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of these endangered species and where they spent the past night. This trek is tiresome but so impressive when you finally face the mountain gorillas. After the trek, transfer back to Kigali city for your departure flight.
