KYAMBURA GAME RESERVE

The Magnificent Valley of Apes positioned very close to the equator crossing the Kyambura river  is situated on the North Eastern side of the Queen Elizabeth National Park and it  covers a distance of 11kms to link to the Kazinga channel which forms the northern boundary of the reserve. This game reserve was formed as a buffer zone to the Queen Elizabeth since during the dry season, the animals come and drink water from the River Kyambura. It is Surrounded by Savannah and known for its high concentration of the Primates thus the name Valley of Apes.

HABITATS

This is the only place with habituated chimpanzees and other types of primates like baboons,red tailed monkey,black and white colobus and it is also known for its variety  of bird species.

Activities

Chimp trekking

This is the second main tourist activity after the lions in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is a guided trek, and one has to be physically fit and the youngest not being less than 12 years. While Chimpanzee trekking you will be able to see how the chimpanzees triangulate using the sounds, most of the chimpanzees here are free with human interaction making it possible to have a chance to closely see and take photos of the same.

The dress code is boots, long trousers, long shirts since it can be muddy a number of times and please remember to carry your bug repellants.

Other activities include Guided Walks  that expose you to the mist which forms early in the morning and sounds of gushing water, the cool nature and breeze of the trees where only birds and other primates are communicating.
