Bisate Lodge Rwanda

Bisate Lodge is one of Rwanda’s luxury eco-lodges famous for providing an exceptional base for mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park found in the dramatic volcanic landscape of northern Rwanda. The lodge combines high-end accommodation with conservation, reforestation, community engagement and immersive wildlife experiences. The Lodge is operated by Wilderness and was designed around the idea that luxury tourism can contribute directly to the protection of Rwanda’s biodiversity.

The lodge is located close to Kinigi and Volcanoes National Park making it particularly convenient for travelers visiting Rwanda primarily to see the endangered mountain gorillas. The surrounding landscape consists of steep green hills, volcanic soils, cultivated farmland and the spectacular peaks of the Virunga Mountains.

Bisate Lodge is situated in Rwanda’s Northern Province near to the town of Kinigi and the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park in the natural amphitheatre created by an eroded volcanic cone giving it a distinctive setting surrounded by mountains and forest.

Guests enjoy beautiful views toward several of the Virunga volcanoes i.e Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi. The surrounding landscape is characterized by high-altitude vegetation, rolling hills and the Afro-alpine forests associated with the Virunga volcanic chain.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Bisate Lodge is its architecture. The six original forest villas are inspired by traditional Rwandan architecture and the historical royal traditions of Rwanda. Their rounded, dome-like forms are covered with thatch and natural materials, creating an appearance that blends naturally into the mountainous environment. The design combines traditional influences with contemporary luxury. Inside, guests find comfortable bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, fireplaces and private decks overlooking the surrounding landscape.

The architecture is deliberately connected to the environment rather than designed as a conventional modern hotel. Natural materials, earthy textures and locally inspired decorative elements help create a sense of place.

Bisate Lodge consists of six forest villas giving the lodge a small and intimate atmosphere. The villas can accommodate a limited number of guests, allowing the experience to remain relatively private. Each villa is designed to provide a comfortable retreat after a demanding day in the mountains.
