5 day cultural and active tour in Madagascar

This is a 5 day cultural and active tour around the mountain chain of the Ankaratra region, in the very center of the Highlands. Immersed in the Imerina tribe, you will start the tour from the west of Antananarivo by visiting the lemurs Park and a village of artisans specialized in recycling-tins. You will also discover one of the old King’s palace situated on one of the twelve sacred hills with a great panoramic view. Your visit will continue to a thermal spring and geyser then to the fishermen’s village at Itasy Lake. Then reaching Faratsiho to visit a typical weekly market. Getting more inside the Red Island, you will have some walks to visit a smiths’ village as well as traditional herbalists and will taste typical cuisine when staying at a rural inn. You will be then heading to Antsirabe, the city of water and rickshaws, also known for its precious stones and minerals.

Day 1 – Arrival in Antananarivo

Antananarivo is also known as Tana Madagascar’s capital city. It is boasts a rich historical heritage that is complemented by scenic landscapes covered in a large network of popular hiking routes. Visitors can look forward to exploring the remnants of the French colonial era in the old heart of the city, as well as discovering ancient Malagasy palaces interspersed between the faded grandeur of these colonial relics and check-in at Hotel la Ribaudiere.

Day 2: Antananarivo – Andasibe.

Departure from Antananarivo, heading eastward to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. Stop at half way for visiting the Peyreiras reptile’s farm arriving in Andasibe in the evening and embark on an evening walk to observe the nocturnal species. Dinner and overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge.

Day 3: Andasibe.

A day to explore Andasibe with your local wildlife guide. A montane forest park offering the chance to spot a variety of lemurs, reptiles and birds. One of its most famous inhabitants is the Indri, Indri the largest of lemurs with a black and white teddy bear like appearance. Other lemurs which can be seen here are the red-bellied lemur, brown lemur, lesser bamboo lemur, with nocturnal lemurs – brown mouse lemur, greater dwarf lemur, Eastern woolly lemur, sportive lemur, aye aye. Dinner and overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge.

Day 4: Andasibe

Today another journey is dedicated for the wildlife in visiting the Mantadia primary forest which is best known for its population of Madagascar’s largest lemur, the indri and was nominated in 2007 to become part of the World Heritage Site of Rainforests of the Atsinanana.

Day 5: Andasibe – Antananarivo.

Take a visit of the Lemur Island of Vakona before heading back to Antananarivo for your flight back home.
