The tour starts and ends in Kigali city. The tour includes a gorilla permit worth $1500 per person in the final price. Tracking of these gorillas takes place in Volcanoes national Park which harbors over 450 mountain gorillas. The safari offers you an opportunity to track the mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys in the park. The park has got 12 habituated gorilla families that are visited on daily basis by those interested. The safari includes a visit to Kigali city where you visit the genocide memorial site and the national Museum.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes national Park

Upon your arrival at the airport, you driver guide will brief you about the details about the 3 days safari and then transfer to the North to Volcanoes National Park located 80km from Kigali. The drive takes 2 hours. In case you arrive in Kigali early enough, have a city tour where you visit the genocide memorial site and have lunch at any local restaurant before transferring to the park in the afternoon.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast at the lodge and then proceed to the park head quarters for briefing about the dos and donts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda. By 8:30 am , hike into the forest in search for the allocated gorilla family with which you are to spend 1 hour and then get back to the starting point. The trekking time varies from 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of these endangered species and where they spent the past night.

After the trek, proceed for a community walk near by the park to learn more about the Kinyarwanda way of life. Return to the lodge and relax for the evening.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking in volcanoes national Park or visit Dian Fossey tomb

Have breakfast at the Lodge and they proceed for a guided golden monkey tracking. These are very interesting creatures to watch as they play, move around the trees and feeding. The other alternative is visiting the Dian Fossey tomb who was a great primatologist who gave her life to conserving the mountain gorillas. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon; get to visit any local school where you will interact with the locals.

Day 4: Depart for Kigali city

Have breakfast and then check out of the park and then transfer to Kigali Airport. You can have a city tour to view a few places like the pottery projects, markets, hand craft shops, the natural museum etc. After, have lunch and then drive to the airport for your flight back home.
