10 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking tours – Mountain & Eastern Lowland Gorillas – Nyiragongo Trek

A 10 Days congo Safari cannot be complete without experiencing the mountain gorillas & Eastern lowland gorillas in the magic two national parks of Congo located in Eastern Part that are connected by Lake Kivu that is shared by Rwanda and Congo.

Primate Safaris has tailored the 10 days Congo gorilla trekking starting from Kigali Rwanda, leading you to recover the eastern democratic republic of congo with an experienced guide of Primate Safari Experiences.

Day 1 Pick up from Kigali Airport- Hotel in Kigali.

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport( Meet & Greet Representative) who will hand you to the guide of Primate Safari Experiences and transfer you to the hotel in Kigali for lunch and if it’s during evening time, you will explore  Rwanda Nightlife. Dinner and overnight at Marriot hotel, Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Transfer from Kigali to Bukavu Congo.

You will be picked up from the hotel by the guide and start on the great lovely journey into the democratic republic of congo mainly visiting the eastern part of the country that is known to be the nearest city to Kahuz Biega National park. This journey will take you 6-7 hours’ through the rolling hills of Rwanda. Lunch will be en route as you continue to cross the Rwanda border to Congo. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Hotel Begonias. ( Crossing into congo to  done using Rusizi Border one)  Border Clearance to be done by the representative for Primate Safari Experiences.

Day 2: Eastern lowland gorilla trekking

After early morning breakfast you will drive for 2 Hours to Kahuzi-Beige national Park headquarter for briefing about the dos and don’ts of eastern lowland gorillas to the gorilla trekkers and after entering into the swamplands to search for the endangered lowland gorillas which may last for 2-5 hours, with one hour for taking photos and videos, After gorilla trekking return to the lodge for relaxation. Lunch will be provided after the trek from the lodge, Dinner, and overnight at Tshivanga Lodge.

Day 3; Nature Walk & Visit to Lwiro chimpanzee sanctuary

After a relaxed morning breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to lwiro chimpanzee sanctuary in kahuzi biega National Park to enjoy chimpanzee watching in the conservation area of Congo. later proceed to the waterfalls found in kahuzi bieg where you will visit the house of the former president of Zaire.

In the afternoon you will visit the tea plantations near the lodge learning the community way of life in Congo and participate in the local conservation projects in the lovely Bukavu. Dinner and overnight at Tshivanga Lodge.

Day 4: Second Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega

After breakfast you will head back to the park headquarter for the second briefing about the eastern lowland gorilla trekking rules and regulations, you will head into the jungle of Kahuzi Biega to search for the gorillas where you will stay with the gorillas for 4 hours since its pure Habituation experience.  After the experience, you will visit the local community for the homestay experience. Dinner and overnight as Above.

Day 5: Transfer to Virunga National Park by speed boat.

After Morning breakfast, you will leave Kahuzi Biega Safari Park Lodge to head to Bukavu city and take the speedboat from Ihusi port and connect with Goma City. The Drive takes 2-3 hours, upon arrival, you will be picked up by the experienced guide of Primate Safaris and transfer to Bukima Tented Camp or Mikeno Lodge the top luxury Lodge in the great Virunga National Park.

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to the park headquarter for briefing about the gorilla trekking rules and regulations about the mountain gorilla trekking in the wilderness of Virunga National Park.

Treks usually require 2-3 hours of hiking each way, depending on the location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching.  Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as Above.

Day 7:Nyiragongo Hike

After breakfast at the lodge, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15 am the departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival to Kibati, guests will receive a briefing and will have the opportunity to hire porters, the Company will provide for one porter each to carry the mikeno package. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours depending on the speed and trekkers will overnight on the summit.

Note: Clients that wish to make it an exclusive adventure communicate to us during the time of Booking as we shall available you with the extra costs to be paid and even flying is possible when hiking Nyiragongo Volcano.

Day 8: Descend Nyiragongo Volcano

In the early morning, guests will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. The average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Mikeno Lodge for relaxation in the wilderness of Virunga National Park Dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge

Day 9: primate Searching & Birding in Virunga

On this lovely day, it’s a true appreciation of the best Virunga Forest where you may spot Golden Monkey, Chimps & other monkeys, birding is also possible with the relaxation visitation to the orphaned gorillas in Mikeno Lodge Side.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali International Airport

After breakfast at the lodge, you start to transfer from Mikeno to Kigali via Goma ‘s Grande Barriere border post. This is a day of relaxed driving and lunch will be en route, arriving in the evening time for the flight back home.
